


Amb. Dr. Olufemi Pedro, High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Australia, paid a courtesy call on Honorable Milton Dick, Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives. The Speaker warmly welcomed the High Commissioner and wished him a successful tenure in Australia. Their discussions focused on deepening Nigeria-Australia bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, agriculture and education. The Speaker underscored the Australian Parliament’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary ties with Nigeria’s National Assembly. He noted that both countries serve on the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s continued support for Australia at the IPU in Geneva. As a further demonstration on this commitment, the Speaker announced the establishment of the Australia-Nigeria Parliamentary Friendship Group to promote closer Parliamentary engagement and enhance the enduring partnership between both nations.
